World War I Dishes
The start of World War I changed the eating habits of Americans. Suddenly, much of the food grown in the States was needed overseas. People were asked to ration what they ate. The newly created Food Administration urged everyone to have "Wheatless Wednesdays" to free up the crop for soldiers overseas. Other days of the weeks had their own restrictions. Staples such as butter and eggs became scarce and Americans had to improvise with their food.
World War I recipes made the most of rationed food.
